The Wellnitz Award is voted on by the coach's peers with them evaluating the coach for his ability to get his players, parents and staff to conduct themselves in a positive manner . Also as a role model and mentor for young players while teaching sportsmanship, teamwork , and "Respect for the Game". The award is named for the son of Bob Wellnitz ( Portland Football Officials Association - Commissioner), Kirk Wellnitz ,who lost his life while on a training mission off the Oregon Coast as a member of our Air National Guard. These Coaches need to be held in the highest regard for the great things they do to make each of our communities better.
